The Holiday Invitational, as it was known in its first year in 1972, started as an 8 team boys tournament composed of teams from Raleigh and Eastern NC
The event has grown in stature and size and is a staple for the Triangle community!.  The nationally recognized John Wall Holiday Invitational tournament now includes a girls tournament and plays host to schools from across the United States. From the beginning the tournament featured numerous basketball legends. Cedric “Cornbread” Maxwell and Tar Heel legend Phil Ford played in the inaugural tournament in 1972.  In the mid-1980s the Holiday Tournament cemented its reputation as a preeminent prep basketball event as teams from across the nation began competing against North Carolina high schools. The Tournament has featured stand-out ACC recruits and has hosted over 90 players who have gone on to the NBA.  Located in the heart of basketball country, the John Wall Holiday Invitational is now one of the most widely recognized and top ranked prep tournaments in the country. It is a must see event each year for the Triangle community. Former title sponsors include the News and Observer, Glaxo Wellcome, GSK, and Capitol Broadcasting. Today, the tournament’s title sponsor is NBA star and Raleigh native John Wall, a former tournament player and avid supporter of this event.
