This year the Triangle Educational Advancement Foundation awarded 55 scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each to graduating seniors in the 27 public high schools in the greater Triangle.
The Triangle Educational Advancement Foundation is a 501(c)3 volunteer organization that organizes the ABC 11 Pigskin Preview at Carter-Finley Stadium in August, GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational Basketball Tournament held in December at Reynolds Coliseum and the Eurosport Spring and Fall Soccer Showcases in April and September at Broughton High School.
The purpose of these events is to provide scholarships to deserving students within the Triangle (graduating seniors, 2.8 or better GPA, having a need and exhibiting sound character). This year the Foundation distributed $55,000 in scholarships to 27 high schools in the greater Triangle area.
Over the past nine years the Foundation has distributed over $410,000 in scholarships to each public high school in the Triangle area and has started a $170,000 endowment designed to fund four-year scholarships. The proceeds of all four events are combined and scholarship availability is announced to area guidance counselors in March with recipients named by May.
